DUBLIN, Ireland - iRadio this week signed on for another ten years.
iRadio was launched just prior to the 2008/9 Global Financial Crisis in February 2008 and despite earlier hurdles has grown into being Ireland's third biggest commercial radio franchise.
The network serves the counties of Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Longford, Leitrim, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Laois and Offaly, broadcasting on frequencies of 96.9, 102, 194, 105 and 107 FM.
On Thursday at the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland in Dublin, directors and executives signed a new 10 year license to broadcast until 2030. The authority had decided in June to award the new ten year license.
"We are very pleased to sign a new ten-year contract with iRadio. Regional music-driven youth services add to the range of choices available to audiences and help foster a media landscape that reflects the diversity of Irish society," Chief Executive of the regulator Michael O'Keeffe said.
iRadio CEO Mark Cunning said he was delighted to make everything official.
"It's been a wild ride from our launch in 2008 to today, but today's a huge day," he said.
"Today we sign a new ten-year license which means tomorrow is the start of a brand new chapter for iRadio."
"I genuinely believe we are one of Ireland's most relevant, fun and engaging media brands. With our new ten-year license in our hands, we can continue to evolve the iRadio brand..it's time we have some fun."
iRadio Chairman Willie O'Reilly also reflected on the signing, saying:
"Today's a wonderful day for staff and listeners at iRadio. Winning this license is a great vote of confidence in what we've done over the years.
"We're really excited now for the future."
