CALIFORNIA, U.S. - In a bid to streamline production of its electric cars, Tesla has now announced plans to drop some color options.
Announcing the company's plans on Twitter, Tesla Chief Executive, Elon Musk said that the company is looking to intensify efforts to ramp up production.
Tesla is planning to do away with the problems that have led to the company missing several production deadlines for its Model 3s - which is its most affordable sedan.
Now, Tesla, which currently offers seven colors for its vehicles is planning to end certain color options.
The electric carmaker offers seven color options for its top variant Model S, mid-level Model X and its affordable sedan, Model 3.
Musk has now said on Twitter, Moving 2 of 7 Tesla colors off menu on Wednesday to simplify manufacturing. Obsidian Black & Metallic Silver will still be available as special request, but at higher price."
However, the company said that it will still provide the color options for solid black, midnight silver metallic, deep blue metallic, pearl-white multi-coat, and red multi-coat.
A Tesla spokesperson explained, We occasionally adjust pricing and available options to best reflect the value of our products and to streamline our manufacturing operations. The adjustments made today are the latest example of that. Model 3 Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive is now a $6,000 option, and beginning September 13th we will be removing two paint options.
